In this article we are going to explain how to block or disable a USB drive in Windows .
If you want to protect your computer from data theft, viruses, or other risks then you can simply disable the USB port for external USB devices and enable USB ports when required. In this example we disable a USB port using a registry setting and it's only blocked for Flash drives, external hard disks and mobile phones but not for a USB mouse, USB keyboard etc.
Steps To Disable a USB Port...
1. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK..
2. Locate, and then click the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UsbStor
3. In the right pane, double-click "Start".
4. In the Value data box, type "3" (without quotes), click Hexadecimal (if it is not already selected), and then click OK. Note :- if 3 is entered it will open the port and if 4 is entered it will close the port.
5. Quit Registry Editor.
